Exterior

This magnificent castle, dating back to the 14^th century, is of great importance, both historically and architecturally. The outline of the Castle consists of a quadrangular plan with four round towers, semicircular bastions, two internal courtyards, a central courtyard, walkways above the roof, hanging gardens, galleries and an ancient defensive wall.

You’ll find a Renaissance Court inside the castle, and the main gateway, which was one protected by a drawbridge, leads into a Romanesque courtyard. There are even several trapdoors located within the estate.

Besides being designed in the Romanesque style, the courtyard also has an elegant Renaissance porch with stone columns, and a 16^th century marble portal leading to the interior rooms of the castle.

Interior

The rooms located inside the castle all overlook the old medieval village nearby and offer breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian coast, the charming Porto Venere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Gulf of Spezia. Each room has its own special story.

A beautiful 16^th century marble portal leads to the interior rooms of the castle. You’ll find the entrance hall, the dining room with a large fireplace, the throne hall, the great hall and the trap room with a torture room under it. 

The living rooms of the castle are spacious and elegant. Here, you’ll find two magnificent hanging gardens. These are the perfect spots to paint, read a book or just relax while enjoying an exquisite glass of wine in the evening.

For those who like ghost stories, there is also a legend of a ghost haunting the castle. In fact, the form of a girl with long hair is sometimes seen drifting through the rooms of the castle.
